New Music: Listen Up

I think there is a lot of good music coming out these days or maybe it's just that I'm listening to new tunes lately - I'm not sure, but here are a few that I've come across this year that I think you should check out.

Amy Winehouse

• Although her and Lily Allen apparently don't like each other - Winehouse can flat out sing. Check out her live performance at SXSW or her video for Rehab below - just don't forget all her other stuff too!

Jenny Owen Youngs

• Found Jenny Owen Youngs while reading Perez Hilton the other day from her performance at SXSW. Never heard of her, but great voice and good lyrics. Check out her shit and give a listen.

Jill Cuniff

• For those that still miss Luscious Jackson, Cuniff has released a new solo album. Go check out Lazy Girls, Warm Sound, and Happy Warriors now for a listen.

Under the Influence of Giants

• I still haven't picked up this album, but UTIOG is this strange pop band whose songs I really like. Check out the videos for Mama's Room and In the Clouds:

Muse

• Read my earlier post on Muse and get ready for porno mustaches, robots and The Circle of Death!

Lily Allen

• I spoke about Lily Allen recently too, but mostly against the writer from Boston.com who was pitching Allen as a ska artist - totally bizarre to me. Anyway, she is on tour right now and I've read some great reviews about her live performances, so watch out!
