Back in NYC

Back in the Big Apple for some work this week so haven't had a chance to post up until today. Waiting for some new meetings to start and thought I'd throw up my thoughts from the trip so far.

• Thanks to the UN being in session here, traffic and taxis have been a pain in the ass all week long!
• Ono is really good and I must go back there in the future
• Right up the street is Buddakan which is a great little spot for drinks - try the Redemption
• Got to finally play Bioshock and Halo 3 on this kick-ass HD Projector from Samsung that throws out a 1080p image at 100" - fuckin sweet for these two games!
• The weather here is hot and humid - weird that I came North to find the last days of summer
• Picked up some new Pumas! About time too, my current Addidas are pretty beat up

Besides that it's been pretty low key.

Halo 3: Have You Heard of It?

In case you don't know, there is this game called Halo 3 that is coming out later this week. The fan boys are lining up already at area stores to grab a copy, but thanks to the folks out there in the gaming industry, we are already getting some solid Halo 3 reviews.

In a brief summary it seems like all reviewers have the same thing to say: the single-player campaign is good, with the same formula as before. Some interesting adds to the enemy AI, but in general it's a solid extension of Halo 2 and not a revolutionary experience. Multi-player on the other hand seems to be amazing. All in all, sounds like Halo 3 turned out to be the title it was rumored to be all along.

• IGN asks for a cigarette once it's all over

Overall looking good. I'll be grabbing my copy this weekend, but won't help much seeing that my tv still hasn't arrived yet. Oh the joy....

I'll admit that I'm a huge sports fan and although football and the NFL aren't a must watch every Sunday - I do have a soft spot for the Pats. With that simple word, you should know where I'm heading on this. Yup, that's right - the cheating scandal that's 'shaking' the NFL to it's core....or some bullshit like that.

I was pretty much going to stay on the sidelines until I headed over to ESPN today and caught TMQ's newest article from Gregg Easterbrook. Now although I believe Easterbrook has a pretty cool last name and is a good writer - his slant and comments on what is going on in the NFL and the New England Patriots is just bizarre.

In true Brevitt style, let me go over some of his comments:

• "There could be autumn Sunday afternoons in the near future in which the overwhelming majority of Americans couldn't care less what NFL games are being shown."
  • While this is true, you could also apply to this to pretty much anything. Change in culture is a normal part of life and evolution.
• "Fox Sports reported that former NFL players believe Belichick had microphones installed in the shoulder pads of defensive linemen so the Patriots could tape other teams' offensive audibles and line calls."
  • Now if true this is pretty wonky, please consider the source....it's fuckin Fox news. Do they ever deliver accurate facts or just tainted viewpoints? Might as well just say that The Onion reported this...
• "It seems more than just an eerie coincidence that Belichick's unethical behavior involves illicit taping, the same offense that made Nixon's actions so sordid."
  • Easterbrook dedicates a good portion of this story comparing Belichick to Nixon in maybe one of the oddest attempts of comparison ever
• "It would not surprise me in the slightest if, before the season ends, Belichick resigns, or is suspended, or is fired by Kraft, or even is permanently barred from the league."
  • This final comment actually makes me laugh. Really Gregg - you think this will happen? It's ridiculous.

The kicker for me wanting to write about this was that he then moves on to touching on such topics as NFL cheerleading, game reports, cheerleading with pictures, a restuarant review and I think one more pic of a cheerleader in a tight outfit. Maybe we should get Fox News to look into this type of reporting - it certainly is entertaining.

Let me wrap up this post with a few final comments:

• El Bulli is considered one of the finest restaurants in the world - not sure how you can knock it just because it has untraditional fare. Sure prices at Moto are expensive, but that's what fine dining is about. It's the experience and sometimes you have to pay for that brother
• The plot for Event Horizon is completely different than Sunshine - looks like you missed the mark on that one too

So sure the scandal with the Pats is pretty bad for the league, but every team and every player in every sport from the pro ranks to amateurs has cheated. If you don't think so, then you have never played an organized sport. It doesn't make it better and in fact I think what the Pats did is pretty messed up, but let's not get all high and mighty here.

It's a game, everyone cheats at some level - let's let the big boys play and maybe Easterbrook can focus on his true passion......which apparently is NFL cheerleaders in skimpy outfits.

Update: Mission Move Meh Shit

Well lookie here I say! Looks as if my stuff is finally going to arrive (maybe) tomorrow afternoon (give or take 24 hours). It's about damn time Russian Mafia! I know NYC is back up in the Northeast, but it shouldn't take you 12-days (depending on traffic conditions) to get to the Durty!

So in celebration of my stuff actually showing up (possibly) I'd like to present GWB mad as hell about the wait time for my move.

What you say? You've never heard of MC Frontalot or Nerdcore....for shame dear people, for shame! In every musical genre there are the sideline performers that are often looked at as jokes more than real artists. Their music is fairly weak with dry lyrics - basically they shouldn't be musical artists, but then there are the others. Those that exist on the fringe of the music industry, but still pump out some music that no matter what the lyrics are - they are fun to listen to. Besides, isn't that what music should be about...dope beats, fun lyrics, good times.

Enter MC Frontalot in 2000 and Nerdcore is created. Hip-hop focused on every aspect of the nerd culture: video games, science fiction, monsters, books - you name it, it is there. The first three movies are classics and the introduction of Sir Connery in the last installment was brilliant! So get ready kids - filming has already started, so be on the watch for this in 2008!
