Today is a post much ado about nothing really - just a rambling of thoughts. So let's start the show and see what comes out...

• It's St. Patrick's Day..woohoo! Although it makes me said to hear about what's happening back in Dot, but when you think about it - change is good and hopefully the old timers and new influences make a better neighborhood
• It's not a whole river in green like Chicago, but I'm eating Pear flavored Skyr for breakfast - the package is green, does that count?
• Report on 10,000 BC from AICN - blissfully retarded. Report on 10,000 BC from friend in Iceland - worst movie ever made....hmmm?!?!
• I had a bacon, egg and cheese sandwich for dinner last night. It had cucumbers on it too - I didn't feel good afterwards
• Dexter is a great book series and it's been fun to watch some of the episodes from Showtime - good stuff
• My back is hurting - can't wait to get back to the US for my massage therapy appointment
• Iceland needs a Dunkin Donuts store or five

More Yo Gabba Gabba!

If you remember awhile back I was lucky enough to come across Yo Gabba Gabba and my life hasn't been the same since. The characters are hilarious, Biz Markie is a regular, it was created by the lead singer of the Aquabats, they released Pick It Up - I really could go on and on!

So I was happy to see Boston.com pick up on this show with a feature this morning - Preschool and Cool. Very cool article covering how the show has evolved from something targeted to kids only and has now entered hipster status. Also very cool to learn about W!ldbrain, the company behind Yo Gabba Gabba and Kid Robot. Make sure to check out the work they have produced, think you will be surprised on how much they have put out recently.

More Rock Band DLC

Those crazy kids from Cambridge keep pumping out more DLC for Rock Band! The latest two packs have been pretty interesting with so good choices in there, although I'm still waiting for the 18-song Grateful Dead pack.....

Here is what has come out recently:

• Lynyrd Skynyrd - Gimme Three Steps
• Black Crowes - Hard to Handle
• Rush - Limelight
• 30 Seconds To Mars - Attack
• 30 Seconds To Mars - The Kill
• All-American Rejects - Dirty Little Secret
• All-American Rejects - Move Along
• The Sounds - Song With A Mission

Some great choices there, but I'm particularly excited to get my hands on Lynyrd Skynyrd, Rush and The Sounds. Good old Southern Rock tunes are just good music if you ask me, so can't go wrong there. What is there to say about Rush except...oh man! And The Songs - just happen to be one of my current most-listened to bands - great stuff!

So go warm up that guitar kids and get back on stage! Even though your Rock Band exploits have pushed you into the Hall of Fame (go Boro Boys!), there is still a crap load to do in this game....and it's only been out a few months now.

Back Home

It's that time of year again and I'm happy to be back home in Boston. Although my 'extended business trip' has been going great, there really is nothing like coming home and taking it all in. As much as I'm loving being back here though, I can't say the same about the trip up!

Let me give a quick recap.

• Arrive at JFK around 12:30 after two days of meetings in NYC
• 2:30 flight keeps getting pushed back and is finally canceled
• 4:30 flight gets canceled
• 7:15 flight is a go!
• Oh wait.....we don't take off until 7:45
• Land in Boston around 9
• Sit on the plane
• Sit on the plane so more
• Get off plane at 11:30
• Rental car back home
• Arrive home around 1am

Total time from NYC to Boston - 13 hours.

Although the trip took forever, the area was blasted with a snowstorm and I'm just glad I made it back safely.

A little nervous with another storm coming on Saturday, but looks like it will be mostly rain. Thank you Jeebus! My first color appointment is on Sunday afternoon and I'm be pretty bummed out if I missed it after waiting so long!

Back to Rock Band everyone!

MC Frontalot in Boston

Dear People of Boston,

The one and only MC Frontalot is playing this weekend at Harper's Ferry - you need to go. Or at least the cool people that like Nerdcore need to go. This guy puts on fun shows and even though his music is mostly gaming and other geeky things - the guy can still spit lyrics.

Why Boston.com?

I come back from Iceland and what happens? Boston.com decides to fuck up their home page yet again - seriously, what is this shit? Was the last version not working out or were people really that confused by the simple design that was laid out?

I'm finding it pretty hard to locate certain stories, especially now that they have moved the headlines and sections around.

UI and layout design needs to be very carefully worked on and I'm just not sure if this is the best format.

Anyone else have thoughts?

Only 2 Games?!?

The Lords of the Boards at NHL HQ have handed down their suspension for Randy Jones of the Flyers - two games! Two fuckin games for delivering a Grade 3 concussion during a pretty blatant dirty hit over the weekend to Patrice Bergeron of the Bruins. Now I understand that there are circumstances where a player turns at the last moment and a 'bad' hit can't be avoided, but please - this was not one of those situations.

Going through the stories this morning, I came across this one from Scott Burnside where he states:

"Jones tracked Bergeron as he headed into the Flyers' zone. Bergeron's back was to Jones the entire time leading up to the hit, but Jones still used his forearm to drive Bergeron's head into the boards." If you watch any reply, you can see this occurring.

As I mentioned, I fully understand that there are times when shit just happens and it's a freak moment. This was not one of them. It was a blatant hit and delivering a 2-game suspension is a complete joke. What will happen now - as Burnside mentions:

"If the NHL responds as if this were just another hockey hit and penalizes Jones lightly or lets him off altogether, all the league's statements that it is serious about eliminating dangerous play would be rendered moot."

It only makes it worse that this is now the third....yes, the THIRD Flyer's player to be involved in an ugly incident that has resulted in a suspension. Is this a team that is out of control and will the league do something about them? Apparently not.

Maybe my reactions are a bit harsh - I'm not sure, it's still early here in Iceland, but bottom line this was a dirty hit and both the player and the organization should have been penalized more than they have been. For those around Boston, this hit had a direct connection to what happened to Travis Roy. You watch Bergeron falling down and it could have been Roy 10-years ago.

These kind of hits need to stop in hockey. Hard hits, fights, scraps, emotions - it's all part of the game, but dirty plays like this are not.

End rant. Go Bruins. Get well soon Bergeron. Fuck you Flyers.

World Champions: Boston Red Sox

Although I'm in Iceland, I've done my best to keep up to date on the Red Sox and their latest trip to the World Series. Thanks to the Bz for sending me emails about the game, which was followed by me going to Boston.com every morning to get the final score. So early this morning around 7am GMT I woke up and headed over to see that:

The Boston Red Sox won the World Series!

Oh holy hell....now, I realize there will be a billion postings about this everywhere today, but I don't care. See I'm not like some of the new fangled fans out there who hopped on board since the run of 2004. Nope - I'm one of those long time fans who has always had a soft spot for the Sox even though my favorite Boston team is the Bruins. Although I'll never claim to be a historian on the team, I vividly remember the Buckner Ball as a boy and have been with them ever since.

So congratulations Boston Red Sox. It was a hell of a year and a hell of a playoff series from beginning to end. Let's get on signing Series MVP Lowell to a contract now....mmmkay?

Chara Breaking Yo Face

Good to see Chara throwing his might around a bit more with the Bruins this year. Last year he was held back by ex-coach Dave Lewis, but thankfully the Chara of old has returned for 2007.

This video from last night's game against the Chicago Blackhawks is a perfect example of why you don't fight a pissed off 6'9" guy.
