Came home from work last night to an interesting site - my car wasn't were I parked it on Sunday, which is usually never a good sign. So after looking around for tow-zone parking announcements and finding none, I walked across the street to my neighbors to ask if they saw anything. The conversation went like this:
- B!: "Hey, did you guys see tow trucks today?"
- Neighbor: "Oh ya, they were towing people to trim some trees - the cops were here telling people to move their cars."
- B!: "Hmm...really? Did they post signs anywhere?"
- N: "Not sure, I haven't seen any, but they did stop by your house and knocked."
- B!: "Ya, well I work during the day so that wouldn't do much good...thanks though."
Away I went, back home to try and figure out where my car was and why it was towed. Tired the local Police Department which is always an exercise in itself. So I get an officer on duty who tells me my car was towed for tree trimming. I inform him that there are no signs and he replies: 'I'm not going to debate with you if there are signs or not" - ummm, ok. After a few minutes of looking up my car in the system, he informs me that my car was towed to Shop X, but they close in 15-minutes so if I want my car I need to get over there now........
For those not following this - can anyone answer me how I'm supposed to get to Shop X in 15 minutes if I don't have my car? Right.....exactly.
Seeing that I can't control that they close up at 7, which by the way is incredibly stupid - a tow yard that isn't open 24-hours...is that legal? Anyway - call Shop X this morning....waiting, they are looking, still looking and then I get the news: my car isn't at Shop X and nor do they have any idea where it is.
It's back to calling the PD to figure out what is going on. Bottom line - I was told the wrong information last night and my car was towed to Shop Y instead, which by the way is open 24-hours! So now I'm stuck with an overnight bill for a tow that still doesn't even make sense....
PS: As a quick update, looks like I was wrong. There is a notice on a piece of paper the size of a note card stating they are trimming trees.....my bad that I didn't see that!
